Race Info

Who can participate?

  • Virtually anyone! You can participate solo or on a team (max of 8) to complete 355 miles.
  • One flat $35 fee per person no matter if you are participating solo or as a team or whether you choose the run/walk or multiple activity version of the race. You can register September 15 until October 9 (but please be aware that the race will have started on October 1 and will still finish on October 17).

What is the difference between the 2 versions of the event?

There will be two versions of this event happening concurrently.

One is for individuals/teams who are only logging running or walking miles.

The other is for individuals/teams logging multiple types of activities such as running, walking, paddleboarding, yoga, circuit training, dancing, golf, tennis, yardwork, etc. These activities are converted to miles via the race app.

You and your team (if applicable) will need to choose which version of the event you want to participate in when you register. The event is exactly the same for both versions – same course, same benefits, same costs, etc.

Do I actually go run the course?

No, this is a virtual race so you can complete your activities anytime and anywhere you feel comfortable during the race period. Whenever and wherever you run or otherwise perform activities to earn your miles, please do so in a safe manner. And given the COVID-19 pandemic, follow the appropriate guidelines, including social distancing.

What activities count to “move” me on the course?

That will depend on which version of the event you choose.

If you choose the Run/Walk Only version, then running and walking are the only activities you will be allowed to enter.

But if you choose the Multi Activity version, then there are dozens of activities including running and walking that you can pursue such as golf, basketball, yoga, tennis, dancing and yardwork. We have a converter application that will convert many different activities to miles.

How long do I/we have to complete the course?

  • You or your team will have from Thursday October 1 until Saturday October 17. This is a total of 17 days.
  • Please note that we will be using Eastern Standard Times. So the start date and time is Thursday October 1 at 12:01 am EST / 00:01 military time, and the finish date and time is Saturday October 17 at 11:59 pm EST / 23:59 military time. We know that many of you live in the Pacific time zone, so please plan accordingly.
  • See how far you can get in this time period. For those of you who finish, you can keep going, taking another lap or laps along the same course in what will become the Ultra division.

Can I backdate activity?

Hey, we are all busy and we may not get a chance to enter our activity on the day of our activity. That is fine.

But please note you cannot enter activity from a date and time prior to the start time of the event.

How do I record my activities?

You will record your activities/miles daily and be able to track yourself on an electronic map of the entire route. It’s very simple, you will log them on your Racery webpage/Racery app.

May I use my team name from past Race178 Virtual Run Adventures?

We have carried over the team names from our past Virtual Run Adventures. So if you want to use that same name just scroll down to the team name and select it to “claim” it. You can start to fill up the roster for that team. Please contact Kelly at kelly@race178.com if you have questions.

If I am on a team, will I be able to see my individual results?

Even if you are on a team, your individual contribution will be kept separate and you will be listed as an individual on the individual leaderboard.

What do I get?

  • After the event, we will mail you a microfiber towel/cloth that’s handy these days to clean up your heavily used cellphones, laptops and other devices and even eye and sunglasses.
  • We also will send you a sticker with the race logo.
  • You will receive a $10 discount code for Reno Running Company. The code may be used at either Reno Running Company store or online. The code is to be used in October 2020. One time only per participant.
  • You will receive a 25% discount code for Rowdy Bar. One time only per participant.
  • The chance to win some great prizes in a photo contest sponsored by PK Electrical.
  • You will receive a digital race bib when you register, and at the end a digital finisher’s certificate plus other digital awards.
  • Access to the electronic course map to track your progress.
  • Customized milestone emails with photos, video and other entertaining info.
  • Opportunity to engage with and cheer on other participants as they enter their activities and move along the route.
  • This event will motivate you like none other to be active in some way every day.
  • Sense of accomplishment.
  • Sense of camaraderie with other participants and with your teammates if you are on a team.
  • Feeling of pride to support a local non-profit organization doing good in our community – a donation will be made to Friends of the Black Rock.

What if I want to check out or compare myself to certain groups of people?

We know that some of you may want to quickly see certain participants who you know, or you may want to compare yourself to a certain group of participants. You can do that by using the “Group” feature and filtering out other participants. Racery provides quite a bit of information on how to use this feature.
